Potly is a houseplant repotting journal built to help you document, track, and optimize your plant care routine. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect the personal information you share when using our app, including your plant profiles, repot records, custom soil recipes, and photo uploads.

We design our data practices to prioritize your control over your personal plant care records, and we never sell your personal data to third parties for any purpose.

Information We Collect

Information you voluntarily provide to us:

• Plant profile data: plant nicknames, species, purchase dates, location tags, and any other custom details you add to your plant entries
• Repot event records: before/after repot photos, root health ratings, pot size measurements, care observations, and timeline entries
• Soil Lab data: custom soil mix recipes, ingredient ratios, and performance notes you create and save
• Contact information: if you reach out to our support team, we will collect the email address you provide to respond to your inquiries
• Optional preference settings: notification preferences for repot reminders, dark mode settings, and grid view customizations

Information we collect automatically:

• Device information: operating system version, device model, and unique app installation identifiers to help us troubleshoot technical issues
• Usage data: anonymized data about which app features you use most frequently, to help us prioritize updates and improve the Potly experience
• Crash and error logs: to help us fix bugs and ensure app stability when you access your records

How We Use Your Information

• Provide core app functionality: store and sync your plant profiles, repot timelines, and soil recipes across your devices if you enable cloud backup
• Improve app features: analyze anonymized usage patterns to optimize features like the searchable plant grid, visual timeline, and Soil Lab recipe builder
• Send optional notifications: if you enable reminders, we will alert you when it is time to repot your plants based on your own custom schedules
• Respond to support requests: use your contact information to answer questions, resolve technical issues, and follow up on feedback you share
• Maintain app security: detect and prevent fraudulent activity, unauthorized access, and other safety risks to protect you and your data

Data Storage & Security

You can choose to store all your Potly data locally on your device only, or opt in to end-to-end encrypted cloud backup to sync your records across multiple devices. We do not access your private photos, repot notes, or soil recipes unless you explicitly share them with our support team for troubleshooting purposes.

We implement industry-standard security measures including encryption at rest, secure access controls, and regular security audits to protect your data from unauthorized access, disclosure, or misuse. No digital storage system is completely secure, but we continuously update our practices to maintain the highest possible level of protection for your information.

We will only disclose your personal data if required to meet applicable legal obligations, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of Potly, our users, and the general public.

Third-Party Services

We may use limited third-party service providers to support Potly functionality, including cloud hosting providers, crash reporting tools, and payment processors if you choose to purchase a premium Potly subscription. All third-party providers are required to maintain appropriate privacy and security standards, and we only share the minimum necessary data for them to perform their services.

We do not share your personal plant records, photos, or custom soil recipes with any third-party advertisers or marketing partners.

Your Rights

You maintain full control over your data at all times, and you can:

• Access, edit, or delete any of your plant profiles, repot records, or soil recipes directly in the app at any time
• Export all your Potly data, including photos and notes, in a machine-readable format for your personal use
• Opt out of cloud backup at any time, which will delete all your data from our cloud servers and store records only on your local device
• Request that we delete all your personal data associated with your account at any time

Children's Privacy

Potly is not intended for use by individuals under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from an individual under 13, we will immediately delete all associated information from our systems.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy periodically to reflect changes to our practices or app functionality. We will notify you of any material changes via in-app notification at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Potly after the effective date of the updated policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
